Ei hotelliin! - Pas dans un hôtel ! - Not to a hotel!

In Denmark, there was Finnish design all over the hotel at Vejby.

Tuli tänä kesänä taas yövyttyä muutama yö hotelleissa, mikä on mielestäni lähes aina vähän ankeeta, varsinkin jos yöpyjiä on samassa huoneessa useampia. Ihan kuin vankilassa. Tai no rahalla saa, mutta aina sekään ei auta.

Olimme Vaasassa pari yötä kalliimman puoleisessa huoneessa pari yötä, mutta ensimmäisenä yönä unen saanti tyssäsi yläkerran teknojumputusdiskoon. Pari tuntia tympiinnyttin, kunnes mies sai tarpeeksi ja lähti respaan valittamaan asiasta. Huoneeseen tuli henkilö toteamaan melun, ja hetken päästä disko hiljeni huomattavasti. Huone oli sen verran hintava, että kannatti valittaa: saimme myös hyvityksiä ja mieluisia lahjakortteja.

Tänään tavattiin vanha pariisilainen ystävä, joka Helsingissä käydessään on jo monet vuodet vuokrannut asuntoja suoraan omistajilta. Netin kautta tietenkin. Hän on yleensä ollut vakiasunnossa Hietaniemessä, mutta kun siellä on asunnon myös Pariisissa asuva omistaja paikalla, on täytynyt keksiä muuta. Asuntoja on löytynyt Kalliosta, Suomenlinnasta ja tällä kertaa Etu-Töölöstä Museokadulta. Suomenlinna oli tosi jännä, mutta uskomaton on tämä tämänkertainenkin: viikkohinta 500 euroa, asunnossa 84 neliöö, pesukone, kuivauskone, iso kylppäri, kiva avokeittiö, design-huonekaluja, telkkari, nettiyhteys yms. Voittaa kyllä hotellit mennen tullen!

Cet été, on a passé quelques nuits aux hotels, ce qui est presque toujours à mon avis un peu lugubre, comme en prison, surtout s’il y a plusieures personnes dans la même chambre.  Bon, avec fric on pourrait avoir n’importe quoi, mais même ça n’aide pas chaque fois.

A Vaasa, on avait pris une chambre chère pour deux nuits, mais la première nuit, on avait mal à endormir à cause d’un disco de techno au dernier étage. On s’énervait environ deux heures jusqu’à ce que mon mari en a eu assez et est descendu à la reception pour plaindre. Un homme est venu constater le bruit et peu après on n’entendait presque rien. La chambre coûtait tellement cher que ça valait la peine de plaindre: on a aussi eu des remises ainsi que queques coupons-cadeaux qui nous ont plûs.

Aujourd’hui on a rencontré un vieil ami parisien qui depuis plusieurs ans loue des appartements directement de leurs propriétaires quand il vient à Helsinki. Par l’Internet, bien sûr. Normalement il peut louer un studio à Hietaniemi mais quand la propriétaire (qui habite aussi à Paris) est là elle-même, il doit trouver quelque chose d’autre. Il en a trouvé au quartier de Kallio, Suomenlinna et cette fois-ci au quartier d'Etu-Töölö, à la rue de Museokatu. Celui de Suomenlinna (une île de forteresse) était spécial, mais celui où il séjourne maintenant est incroyable : 500 euros par semaine, 84 m², une machine à laver et à secher, une grande salle de bains, une cuisine qui s’ouvre à la salle de séjour, des meubles de design, une télé, l’accès à l’Internet, etc. Mille fois meilleur que les hôtels !

This summer we’ve spent some nights in hotels, which I think is almost always a little dreary, kind of like in prison, especially if there are more people in the same room. Well, money can buy but sometimes even money is not enough.

In Vaasa we had a relatively expensive room in a hotel for a couple of nights, but the first night we couldn’t sleep because there was a techno disco upstairs. A couple of hours the noise made us little by little more and more frustrated until my husband filled up and went to complain about it at the reception. A person came to our room to notice the noise and after a short while we could hear almost nothing. The room was so expensive that it was worth complaining: we got some rebate and gifts token which made us quite content.

Today we met an old friend from Paris who while in Helsinki has for many years now rented rooms directly from the owners. By the internet, of course. He usually has a one-room flat in Hietaniemi but when the owner herself (living in Paris as well) is there, he has to find something else. He has stayed in Kallio, Suomenlinna and now in Etu-Töölö, in the street Museokatu. The one in Suomenlinna (an old fortress island by Helsinki) was something but this one in Museokatu is also incredible: 500 euros per week, 84 m², washing and drying machines, big bathroom, kitchen opening to a big living room, design furniture, TV, access to the internet and so on. Beats the hotels, doesn’t it?
